Lindsey Vonn,  (née Kildow) was born on 18th October, 1984 and is a World Cup alpine ski racer competing with the United States Ski Team. To date, she has won four overall World Cup championships – and along with Annemarie Moser-Pröll, Lindsey Caroline Vonn one of only two female skiers to have achieved that. Three of her titles were won in consecutive years (2008, 2009, and 2010), plus another in 2012.

Lindsay Vonn won the gold medal in downhill at the 2010 Winter Olympics, which was the first time an American woman had won gold in the event. She has also, as of 2012, won five consecutive World Cup season titles in the downhill event, four consecutive Super G titles, and three consecutive titles in the combined.

Lindsey Vonn is one of only six women who have won World Cup races in each of the five disciplines of alpine skiing – downhill, super G, giant slalom, slalom, and super combined – and she has won 59 World Cup races in her career as at January 26, 2013. Only two female ski racers have achieved more World Cup victories in their careers. They are Annemarie Moser-Pröll of Austria who has 62 wins and Ingemar Stenmark of Sweden with 86.

At the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, Lindsey Vonn had intended to compete in all five of the women’s alpine events. She severely bruised her shin in training the previous week, and announced that she would find it difficult to compete at the Winter Olympics through the pain barrier. However, due to unusually warm weather causing poor snow conditions, many of the Alpine skiing events were put back, which gave Vonn the healing time she needed to compete, and on 17th February, in her first event, Lindsey Vonn won the gold medal in the downhill at Whistler Blackcomb, beating her longtime U.S. rival Julia Mancuso by 0.56 seconds, thus becoming the first American woman to win Olympic gold in downhill.

On the 5th February, 2013, during the Alpine World Championships in Schladming, Austria, Lindsey Vonn was involved in an horrific crash and was airlifted to a nearby hospital. Vonn had torn her anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in her right knee and fractured her right tibia.

Lindsey Vonn has enjoyed a good deal of media attention for an alpine skier, which has made her the face of her sport. She has guested on The Today Show, Access Hollywood, and The Late Show with David Letterman and received endorsements from such companies such as Head, Oakley, Red Bull, Rolex, and Under Armour. In 2010, her assets were estimated to be worth in excess of 2.5 million dollars.

Vonn married fellow 2002 Olympian, and former U.S. Ski Team member, Thomas Vonn, on the 29th September, 2007, at the Silver Lake Lodge in Deer Valley, Utah. However in November 2011, the couple announced that they had begun divorce proceedings after four years of marriage. Their divorce was finalized on January 9, 2013.
