Eldrick Tont “Tiger” Woods who was born at Long Beach Hospital in Orange County California on December 30, 1975, is an American professional golfer whose achievements to date place him among the most successful golfers in history. At a time when he was World No. 1, he was the highest-paid sportsman in the world for several years according to Forbes. By the time he was 7 years old his father, Earl had him listening to subliminal tapes in an effort to improve his mental game. Along with the tapes his father waged what he called psychological warfare on Tiger Woods. Typically he would cough, yell, laugh, scream, move, run, jump or throw something at Tiger while he was swinging. He would do absolutely anything to distract him.

At six months old Tiger Woods sees his father hitting golf balls and starts to imitate his fathers swing. In 1978, aged just 2 years Tiger appeared on the Mike Douglas Show putting against legendary comedian Bob Hope. In 1984, at aged 8, he won the Optimist International Junior Championship, and repeated his win at aged 9, 12, 13, 14 and 15, and at 15 years old Tiger became the youngest ever US Junior Amateur Champion in the history of golf.

In 1991, When Tiger Woods was just 15 he became the youngest US Junior Amateur Champion in the history of golf, and in 1992, he successfully defended his title, becoming the first player to win the title more than once and he would win it again the following year. Also in 1991 he took part in his first PGA Tour event, the Nissan Los Angeles Open. In three consecutive years, 1994, 1995 and 1996 Tiger Woods won the U.S. Amatuer Championship becoming the first player in history to do that.

Tiger Woods turned pro in August of 1996 and immediately signed endorsement deals worth $40 million from Nike and a further $20 million from Titleist. He won the Las Vegas International and the Disney/Oldsmobile Classic, earning himself close to $800,000 in just eight events. He was voted the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year in that year, 1996. Within one year Woods had already won his first major, the 1997 Masters with a record-breaking performance. He first reached the number one position in the world rankings in June 1997. He broke a career-long winless streak of 107 weeks when he won the Chevron World Challenge in December 2011. As of January 14, 2013, Tiger Woods world ranking is No. 2.

He has more total match wins than any other active golfer. Tiger Woods is the youngest player to have achieved the career Grand Slam, and the youngest and fastest to win 50 tournaments on the U.S.tour. Additionally, Tiger Woods is only the second golfer, after Jack Nicklaus, to have completed a career Grand Slam three times. Woods has won a total of 16 World Golf Championships, and he won at least one of those events in every year since they began in 1999.
